Coffeehead

From the makers of Fire chief Pizzeria, Goldilocks Cafe, The Sharing House, Taxi, SOS & 100 mile cafe comes Coffeehead, the newest addition to the growing cafe scene in Camberwell.

At 11am, Coffeehead, like every other decent Melbourne cafe, was packed. The waitress told us there would be a 10 min wait, and shortly after, we were seated at the bar.

The menu was big, as were the coffee choices. The lunch menu look delish, with options like fish tacos and pulled pork tacos (I like tacos...).

I wasn't very hungry, so opted for the porridge with poached pear, blueberries and honey. I realise that porridge itself isn't very exciting, but this one tasted like something I could have quite easily whipped up at home. There was a total of about 6 blueberries scattered on top, and at the most, 3 thin slices of a poached pear. Surely they could have been a bit more generous...

My fried egg loving friend ordered the...fried eggs. No sides, just eggs :)

Fried googies
Silky hot chocolate
They also have a variety of pastries and sweets at the front.

Variety of coffees to choose from
What is impressive is that Coffeehead serves 5 different coffee varieties for you to try. So the choice of bean is up to you. A busy, colourful, old school cafe (complete with a foosball table) in a good location (right near Camberwell station). With a bit of a spanish and mexican twist going on, next time I will definitely be ordering something different and getting around the tacos.

Magic City

Today after work I got a call from mum asking me to meet her and a friend for a drink(s) at Magic City in Camberwell. The cafe was empty, and from friends' past reports I had the impression that the food/restaurant wasn't going to be anything too special...

It was about 4ish and we were feeling peckish so decided to have a look what the bar menu had to offer. I noticed the lunch menu seemed a little overpriced for lunch and we weren't starving- so thought small dishes would do the job.

We ordered the potato and bacon croquettes with capsicum jam ($12) as well as the salt + pepper fries ($8).

Salt + pepper fries and croquettes
The croquettes were crunchy on the outside with a soft mashed potato inside. The chips weren't anything to rave about, just plain old fries sprinkled with a pepper and a little more salt than usual (although I lurve salt).

The dessert menu looked yum scrum (vanilla bean pannacotta, fresh figs, 30 year old balsamic $15), but the more wines mum consumed, the more time got away from us and it was almost dinner time- so no dessert goodies today.

I think it ended up being a more expensive wine filled afternoon (for mum- being the good daughter I am I drove :) than mum had originally bargained for. She got a $70 parking ticket as well which was a little awks...

Prospect Espresso

I didn't even know this little gem existed until I met a friend for coffee today. I've always thought Camberwell lacked a decent, trendy coffee shop, and I was surprised when I walked into Prospect Espresso.

It has a cool vibe, nice staff and a good location (I think the the shopfront used to be a hairdressers). We didn't order mains but had a sneaky gaze at the couple next to us who ordered the burger, which came with a mini deep frying basket with chippies in it!

The breakfast menu looked delicious, with simple tasty treats such as ricotta hotcakes with poached pears + vanilla cream ($15), bubble and squeak with smoked salmon, poached egg + hollondaise ($16) and baked eggs with tomato relish, mushrooms, brioche, herbs + goats cheese ($15).

REAL soy chai latte (no powder!)
There was a little assortment of cakes from Red Door Cakes on the counter which looked delish.

A nice simple cafe in good location with a hearty fresh menu- one that I will be coming back to check out!

Nataraj

A couple of weeks ago, Mum and I went on a little date to Nataraj in Camberwell. I hadn't been before but was told by a friend that their small share plates were really yummy.

We decided that we would share 5 dishes from the tapas menu.

My best friend had raved about their eggplant chips ($12.50) so of course we had to have them. They were heavenly, and served with lots of sweet chilli mayonnaise (what more could you ask for). We also ordered the risotto balls with bocconcini, peas and sun dried tomato served on salsa verde ($12), and also the grilled lamb koftas with with hummus ($13).

Arancini, eggplant chips + lamb koftas
We also ordered the selection of greek dips (taramasalata, eggplant + tzatziki, $14.50) with pita bread, as well as the prawn, corn and coriander fritters ($12).

The pita bread was "mr pita" brand. Doughy and delicious!
Love a good dinner dates with mumsy! A great little restaurant with some great little treats!
